Rubbish Heap was World Industries’ first video, announcing Steve Rocco’s company as the loud, irreverent alternative to the big board makers of the 80s.
The skating was serious and the attitude was not. Low-budget filming, prank humor and a take-nothing-seriously tone set it apart from Powell Peralta’s polished productions. Mike Vallely, who had just left Powell, was one of its headline names, a sign that top pros were willing to jump to a smaller, rider-friendly company.
Rubbish Heap is remembered less for any single trick than for what it started. World Industries and the companies that grew up around it, like Blind and 101, would spend the early 90s tearing down the old guard, and this tape was the opening shot.
