Privacy policy

SkateArchive.com is run by Haselton Media Group LLC (“we” and “us”). This policy explains what we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

When you browse

  • Server logs. Our web host records your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and when. We use this to run and secure the site.
  • Votes. When you vote a video dope or wack, we store a scrambled one-way code made from your IP address, not the address itself. That code is only used so each connection gets one vote per video.

When you comment

  • The name, email address and comment you enter, plus your IP address and browser type, which WordPress records to fight spam. Your email address is never shown publicly.

When you make an account

  • Your username, email address and password. Passwords are stored scrambled, so we can’t see them.
  • Your confirmation that you’re 13 or older and that you agreed to our Terms of service.
  • Anything you add: your profile picture, the videos you post, their titles, your comments, and when you confirmed you had the rights to share each video.

Your username, profile picture, posted videos and comments are public. Your email address stays private.

How we use it

We use this information to run the site and your account, send your confirmation email, stop spam and abuse, handle copyright notices, and improve SkateArchive. We don’t sell your personal information.

Cookies

  • Login cookies keep you signed in. Comment cookies remember your name and email if you tick that box on the comment form.
  • Video players. Videos play from YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. Those players may set their own cookies once a video loads. YouTube videos use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode.
  • Advertising. We plan to show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this site and other sites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google’s ad settings, and you can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services. Visitors in the European Economic Area and the UK will be asked for consent before any ad cookies are used.

Services that receive data

  • Our web host, which stores the site and its database.
  • Google Fonts, which serves the site’s fonts and receives your IP address when they load.
  • YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, which serve the videos and thumbnails you watch.
  • The Internet Archive, which serves the CCS catalog page images.
  • Our email provider, which delivers account emails.
  • Google AdSense, once ads are live.

How long we keep it

We keep account information until you ask us to delete your account. Comments stay until they’re removed. Videos you delete go to the trash and are erased after 30 days. Vote codes stay as long as the video does. Server logs are kept according to our host’s schedule.

Your choices and rights

  • You can edit or delete your videos and change your profile picture any time from your dashboard.
  • To get a copy of your data, correct it or delete your account, email us at the address below. We respond within 30 days.
  • California residents have the right to know what we collect, and to have it corrected or deleted, without being treated differently for asking. Once ads are live, Google’s ad cookies may count as “sharing” under California law. You can opt out through Google’s ad settings linked above.
  • Visitors in the EEA and UK can access, correct, delete or object to the use of their data, and can complain to their local data protection authority. We run accounts because you asked for one, protect the site under our legitimate interest in security, and only use ad cookies with your consent.

Children

SkateArchive isn’t for children under 13. You must be 13 or older to make an account, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete it. Parents can contact us at the address below.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, but no website can guarantee perfect security.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll also email members.
