etnies began in France in 1986 and came under Pierre-André Senizergues, who later built Sole Technology around it in Southern California. In the late 80s it gave Natas Kaupas a signature shoe, often cited as one of the first pro-model skate shoes.
The brand has kept a team through every era of street skating and funds the free public etnies Skatepark in Lake Forest, California.
