Converse was founded in 1908 in Malden, Massachusetts, and released the All Star basketball shoe in 1917. Its flat rubber sole and canvas upper made it a common street and pool skating shoe in the 1970s and 80s, before skate-specific shoes were everywhere.
Nike bought Converse in 2003, and the brand came back to skateboarding as CONS around 2009, reworking the Chuck Taylor, One Star and Jack Purcell with skate cushioning.
