Converse released the All Star in 1917 as a basketball shoe, and player and salesman Chuck Taylor’s name was added to the ankle patch in the early 1930s. Canvas, a flat vulcanized sole and a low price made Chucks a common skate shoe in the 1970s and 80s.
CONS later released a skate version, the CTAS Pro, with a cushioned insole.
